The Castle

Reuben’s inspiration for this build comes from the purest influence for any artwork: the heart. The Castle guitar is inspired by Reuben Forsland’s mother. Her infinite resourcefulness engraved an innate sensibility of discovery for Reuben. In his words, “she could always find a way to make something out of nothing.” With her strength and vision in mind Reuben will be crafting the world’s first “Castle” guitar out of 85 year old ebony fragments from an Austrian castle table.

The fragmented ebony will be joined together by firing and sanding fine metals into a one of a kind back and sides set. This set is then bent, formed and sanded into the rims and back of the guitar.

This will be topped with an exceptional spruce top appointed with Reuben’s new rosette design.

Living With The Dragon

Inspired by the incredible strength and courage of a close friends battle with cancer, Reuben Forsland set out to craft a “Living With The Dragon” guitar. This guitar pays homage to ancient Stratavarian technique by using the sap of the Dragons Blood Tree to varnish the top, similar to the world famous “Red Violin”.

Reuben’s Living With The Dragon guitar will feature a 30 year old set of extremely figured Brazilian Tulip Wood paired with a soundboard sourced from the same forest Stradivarius discovered his historical spruce.

Joel Sahlstrom

First Choice

On a balmy mid summer afternoon in St Louis, word travelled in from Hibdon Hardware that they had just procured a stash of vintage dried Honduran rosewood. Martin Guitars was scheduled to come the next day to have their pick through the 300 sets available. Mike from Sahlstrom Stringed Instruments immediately visited Hibdon. He went through the 300 sets to choose what he considered to be the most musical set among the lot, and brought them back to Joel. After Joel laid his eyes on the wood and heard the tap tone he urged Mike to go and buy more sets. The following afternoon Mike arrived at Hibdon Hardware to purchase more sets of the incredible wood only to find that Martin Guitars had purchased the entire lot of wood.

Joel is extremely excited to deliver this guitar. He matched the rosewood back and sides with a master grade red spruce top.

Jeff Traugott

Four Seasons

This Redwood has been sitting on the forest floor on private land in the Santa Cruz Mountains for the last 60 years. It’s first growth Redwood and it was logged over 60 years ago but for reasons not known they never took these logs so they have been sitting there. The wood was discovered by my good friend who cuts Redwood for the family that owns this land. He found these chunks of wood some years ago and asked me if I could use it and how I like it cut. He went there and cut it all perfectly quarter-sawn then literally carried these huge chunks of wood out the forest along with his chainsaws and brought them to me. It’s so amazing to be able to take this old wood that was just sitting there rotting and get a change to make guitars from it. It’s a very rare and very special opportunity.

Jeff Traugott

Jeff Traugott has offered to build a Four Seasons prototype guitar for Symphontree Music. This project has been a dream of Jeff’s since he laid his eyes on the redwood. This Four Seasons guitar will feature Jeff’s redwood on the back, sides and soundboard. This will be a sensational instrument as well as a great opportunity to own a historic Traugott guitar.

Theo Scharpach

The Sheriff

Theo Scharpach sourced some incredible Brazilian Rosewood nearly 30 years ago and reserved four sets for special projects in the future. This rosewood was over 100 years old when it was purchased originally from another European luthier.

When I started discussing guitar builds with Theo he insisted I needed to hear one of his guitars finished in this wood. I couldn’t agree more and insisted on two. Theo mentioned that one of his favourite guitars he ever built was called “Country Style” (pictured below). The Sheriff model will pair ancient 3000 year old Sitka with a 130 year old Brazilian Rosewood. This guitar will not feature any inlays at all and will just present the elegant beauty of the woods in a minimalistic design.

Expect a flawless guitar crafted by a seasoned luthier out of his private stash of wood. A comfortable, warm intimate instrument with a lot of headroom.
