H.G. Leach Guitars is owned and operated by renowned luthier, inventor and master inlay artist Harvey Leach who specializes in building handmade custom instruments and inlay. The one-man shop is located in northern California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Harvey has built over 400 musical instruments, and his inlays have been commissioned by such noted guitar companies as PRS, Collings, and C.F. Martin. His most recent work for Martin was their 1.5 millionth guitar, The Da Vinci Unplugged, which remains on permanent display at the Martin Museum in Nazareth PA. Throughout the guitar industry Harvey is known as an innovator in the world of inlay, creating such techniques as Smoke and Mirrors–the use of shell so thin that it can be used to represent fog or glass so that the object or person beneath can still be seen, or as in the case of a mirror, the illusion of a reflection.
His creativity in the art of guitar making is also widely respected. Harvey is the inventor of Voyage-air Guitar, the full-size guitar with patented hinge technology that allows the neck to fold over the body with the removal of a simple strap bolt and fits into a custom backpack case. The guitar was designed specifically to make airline travel easier for guitar players and safer for the instruments. Most models and their backpacks fit into overhead bins
